$30,503 | #KyGives21 Goal Shattered!

In just 24 hours, 143 friends of Hindman Settlement School contributed a total of $30,503 to support two vital projects on our campus.

Kentucky Gives Day is a statewide, online giving event hosted by the Kentucky Nonprofit Network to raise awareness for charitable giving and connect donors with nonprofits in their area doing meaningful, impactful work. Hindman Settlement School has been participating since the event’s inception nearly a decade ago and has seen steady growth in participation through the years.

“The amount raised in 2021 exceeded our initial goal, our updated goal, and even the stretch goal that we didn’t even believe was possible! This just shows the incredible amount of support by friends of the school and how invested the community is in the mission and programs here at the Settlement,” said Josh Mullins, Senior Director, Program Development and Implementation.

A new aspect of this year’s event was live streams from the Settlement’s own “Troublesome Boys,” the hosts of our bi-weekly podcast, HindmanCast. Three live streams were hosted throughout the day with program staff and special guests. Our afternoon livestream featured music and stories from Pick & Bow faculty, including special performances from students. Click below to view this steam.

Scott and Lauren Napier, instructors in our Pick & Bow after-school music program, perform live during the #KyGives afternoon power hour.

“It is so fun to be able to highlight what the kids do,” Sarah Morgan, Traditional Arts Education Director said. “We were able to broadcast a few clips of the kids playing and it’s so nice to see the smiles on their faces and the fun that they’re having and that’s really what it’s all about.”

The connection to the Settlement School has been life changing for me and many others.

While these dollars are vital and will go far in preserving the legacy of Mr. Still and providing new opportunity for students, the ultimate goal being to show the importance of giving back. It’s not too late to make a gift! Donations are always accepted at www.hindman.org/donate.
