Ironwood Art Show

Last month we celebrated another literary program first. We held an art show and public reading for our Ironwood Writers Studio students!

Students, families, and supporters came to the Appalachian Arts Alliance ArtStation in Hazard on August 24 from as near as Knott County, and as far as Louisville, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Eight young writers read their work and the work of other students who could not attend the event. Displayed around the venue were poems, masks the students painted during this summer’s session with local artist Cyan Cox, and photographs they took during a workshop with photographer Tyler Barrett.

Special guests included a bus of students and teachers from Wolfe County High School who came down to support one of their peers, and folks from the James Baker Hall Foundation, which is generously partnering with Hindman Settlement School to increase literary programming for young writers throughout the region.

It was a great evening, showcasing the work of these talented young writers and artists.
