Gov. Andy Beshear recognized exceptional volunteerism and service contributions at the 28th Annual Governor’s Service Awards located at The Foundry in Frankfort.

“Today, we recognize selfless individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact in our communities,” said Gov. Beshear. “Even small acts of kindness can have a powerful effect by showing what is possible. Every Kentuckian has a unique talent that can be shared.”
Serve Kentucky, an agency within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, coordinates the annual awards ceremony, which included 14 individual and 16 group awards. One of the individual award recipients was Grace Fisher, one of Hindman Settlement School’s inaugural ReadingCorps members. Fisher, who currently serves students at Buckhorn Elementary in Perry County and supports her peers as a literacy coach, was presented with the AmeriCorps Member Award.

In his nomination statement, Josh Mullins, Senior Director, Operations, said: “Grace has exhibited unwavering dedication and passion for the program and the students she sees each day. Not only can she be counted on to fulfill commitments with enthusiasm and dependability, she takes initiative to identify areas for improvement and works proactively to implement positive change. Her creative thinking and innovative ideas have had a significant impact on the organization.”
Grace’s selfless efforts have benefited Hindman Settlement School’s ReadingCorps and made a profound difference in the lives of students who struggle to read on grade level. Join us in congratulating her on this most deserved honor!
