A Note of Thanks

Each semester children and teenagers from across the region can enroll in virtual or in-person after-school tutoring to help remove the barriers they face achieving grade-level reading to dyslexia. Our office manager recently received this note from the parent of one of our students who has been participating for several semesters. Read about Catherine’s tremendous success in her mother’s own words.

Dear Mrs. Gibson,

I’m writing you to thank you for the great impact that the Dyslexia program has on my daughter’s life. When my daughter Catherine was diagnosed with dyslexia in Kindergarten , I thought our life in Eastern Kentucky would be uprooted. I knew resources are scarce locally to help kids with her needs. Then our mutual friend Mrs. Peggy Justice introduced us to the Hindman Settlement School and the program that you run. The after-school program in its virtual version was a game changer for our daughter’s life and her academic advancement. Currently, she’s finishing 4th grade at Pikeville Elementary School. I’m happy to share that she made the top in the Accelerated Reader program her grade with 100+ points!

She got a distinguished on the reading state test in 3rd grade. But, most importantly, she’s more confident in public reading. The biggest testimony would be watching her reading scripture in church on Youth Day. I still get teary eyes remembering her standing in front of all the congregation and reading prayers out loud. At that moment, I realized that my daughter will be okay. She will be able to achieve her goals and not let dyslexia be a hindrance in her life. All this because of your program and all the tutors that worked with Catherine and encouraged her continuously. My family and I are eternally grateful for the positive impact your school and program have on our daughter’s life and the lives of the hundreds of the kids you’ve been helping in our area. I wish you further success and bigger outreach to help more kids in Eastern Kentucky.

Regards,
Lina
