A generative workshop series chock-full of prompts and visuals and opportunities to write about our home-sweet-home, America, from different angles, strategies, even personifications, all designed to help focus energy and emotions, but still encourage attendees to stray their own way. The space this workshop is set up to create will focus a good bit of energy on writing as a healing practice, a way to let off some steam—”out with the bad air, in with the good.” Everyone will be called forth to share (or not share) as they are inclined. Networking and friendship building will be vigorously encouraged. Be forewarned, there will most likely be singing!

All meetings will include the usual discussion surrounding use of device, list making, visual cues, etc., (the basics) to jumpstart the creative process. All levels of writing experience and all genres are welcome.

Week Three Feb. 18: Persona Non-grata

Week Four Feb. 25: Where’d You Say Yer From Freewrite

All meetings will be held virtually on Wednesdays February 4th-25th from 6:30PM-8:30PM EST 

About the Instructor

Kari Gunter-Seymour is the immediate past Poet Laureate of Ohio, the curator/host of the online series Spoken & Heard and the Executive Director of the Women of Appalachia Project and editor of its anthology series Women Speak. She is the author of three award-winning collections of poetry, her most recent, Dirt Songs (EastOver Press) winner of the 2025 IPPY Bronze Award, New York Big Book Award and the 2025 Feathered Quill Award.
