High fives and excited hellos are in your future.

There’s nothing quite like seeing a student’s face light up when they start connecting the dots. As a tutor, you provide one-on-one support for students, while they build the skills they need to succeed – in the classroom, and for a lifetime.

Students who are strong readers and proficient in math by the end of third grade are positioned to be strong learners the rest of their lives. But in Appalachian Kentucky, more than two-thirds our students reach fourth grade without being able to read proficiently and without foundational math skills. Together, we can change this!

WHAT DO TUTORS DO?
  • Serve in a school full-time from September through May, working one-on-one or in small groups with students who need extra help with reading and/or math.
  • Conduct tutoring sessions that are 25-30 minutes long each day school is in session using a scripted, easy-to-follow curriculum that you are fully trained in.
  • Track student progress and regularly meet with coaches to assess data and work toward learning targets.
  • Support families through after-school services.
WHAT ABOUT SUMMER TUTORING?

Tutors may optionally elect to continue their service in the summer, subject to slot availability, to continue receiving their living stipend and extend some benefits.
