JOIN THE READINGCORPS TEAM!

High fives and excited hellos are in your future.

There’s nothing quite like seeing a student’s face light up when they start connecting the dots. As a tutor, you provide one-on-one support for students, while they build the skills they need to succeed – in the classroom, and for a lifetime.

Students who are strong readers by the end of third grade are positioned to be strong learners the rest of their lives. But in Appalachian Kentucky, more than two-thirds our students reach fourth grade without learning to read proficiently. Together, we can change this!

WHAT DO TUTORS DO?
  • Serve in a school full-time or part-time, working one-on-one or in small groups with students who need extra help with reading.
  • Conduct tutoring sessions that are 25-30 minutes long each day school is in session using a scripted, easy-to-follow curriculum that you are fully trained in.
  • Track student progress and regularly meet with coaches to assess data and work toward learning targets.
  • Support families through after-school and summer school services.
WHERE DO TUTORS SERVE?

Tutors serve at local public elementary schools. We have positions available at every school in the Knott, Leslie, and Perry County school districts along with select schools in the following independent districts: Hazard, Middlesboro, and Pineville.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS
  • Living Stipend: All tutors receive a stipend every two weeks during their term of service. For a full-time tutor, the annual stipend is $18,000.
  • Health Insurance: Serve full-time as a tutor and you’re eligible for individual medical, dental, and vision insurance with no monthly premiums.
  • Tuition Assistance or Loan Repayment: Complete a term of service and receive an education award of more than $6,000, payable for tuition or student loans. Tutors 55 and older can transfer their award!
  • Childcare Assistance: Full-time tutors may be eligible to receive child care assistance (household income restrictions apply).
