Untelling

ISSUE 4 NOW AVAILABLE!

A Semi-Annual Showcase for Appalachian Literature

Untelling will be a print publication much like a standard literary journal in that it will be full of poems, stories, and essays, but we will also feature full color art and photography throughout.

There will be two issues a year, released in summer and winter, and while we won’t limit the magazine to writers and pieces from Appalachia, the region will be our main heart.

IT'S UNTELLING

We want to make sure Untelling is a supplement to the current selection of regional literary journals and not a duplication. And we’ve decided on the title Untelling Literary and Arts Magazine because of the nuances of the word itself. Untelling is a regional colloquialism used when storytelling or speculating, such as “It’s untelling what he was thinking” or “It’s untelling how many people will be there.” It is a point of not knowing.

Also, there is the symbolism that through uplifting Appalachian voices, we are un-telling the story that’s been told about the region. We also like the idea of wonder regarding what’s in the new issue. Since we will strive to publish a wide variety of writers and work and art, it’s untelling what will be in there.
