Even As We Breathe – Fireside Firsts

Our Fireside Industries literary imprint with the University Press of Kentucky strives to publish creative work by authors who are telling the complex stories of Appalachia and rural America. Each year we have a series of new releases and 2023 is no exception.  Our first release of the year will be the beautifully designed paperback edition of Even As We Breathe by Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle

Originally published in 2020, Even As We Breathe tells the story of nineteen-year-old Cowney Seqouyah who spends his summer working at the luxurious Grove Park Inn and Resort in Asheville, North Carolina during the time of World War II. At this time, the resort was being used to house Axis diplomats and their families, who were being held as prisoners of war Cowney eventually finds himself accused of abduction and murder when one of the daughters of these families goes missing.

As with every Fireside Industries publication, our Fireside Firsts subscription service has lined up exclusive extras to go along with the book’s release. This release will include a vintage motel keychain branded with The Omni Grove Park Inn and marked room “447,” Cowney’s abandoned sanctuary at the Inn. It will also include a 3D printed vase with Cherokee syllabary as well as a custom designed sticker. Subscribers to Fireside Firsts also have the option to have their copy of the book autography and customized by the author. All of this shipped to their door for $35, which includes shipping.
