We’re officially under 100 days away from Ironwood Writers Studio 2023!
Ironwood is a week-long residency for high school students to stay on our historic camps, study multiple genres of creative writing with respected regional writers, and build community with each other.
This year’s faculty includes Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle (fiction), Bernard Clay (poetry), Shawna Kay Rodenberg (non-fiction), and Loren Crawford (playwriting). Students will have the opportunity to work with all four faculty members.
Additionally, we’ll have special sessions such as a dulcimer lesson, a Narrative 4 story exchange, a cosplay supper, and a trivia tournament.
And we have a new logo! In fact, we’ve decided on starting an Ironwood tradition: we’re going to have a new logo every year! Last year’s was designed by our former team member Jordan Collins, and each new one will feature the elements he incorporated into the original design: an Appalachian animal, an ironwood tree, and of course a reference to writing.
If last year was the year of the opossum, 2023 will be the year of the crow! This year’s design was created by our Community Engagement Coordinator Tyler Barrett, and even makes a nod to honor last year’s opossum. We want each year to feature a different local artist with the design, as well as give each Ironwood cohort their own unique logo.
The dates are June 19-24. To find more information about this year’s faculty and events, as well as FAQ for parents, information about scholarships, and how to register, click here.
I can’t wait to see everyone in less than 100 days!
