Before you step away to give thanks with friends and family, we invite you to give back through our #GivingTuesday campaign. #GivingTuesday, if you are not familiar, is a day to step away from the commercialism of Black Friday and the holiday season and focus in on making a difference in your local community by supporting non-profit organizations whose missions align with your interests. Hindman Settlement School is excited to participate again. Donations of any size from you, even just $10, can make a significant difference in strengthening our mission to improve the quality of lives for Appalachian Kentucky families.
This year, we’ve set an ambitious goal to raise $5,000 to support scholarships for children in our dyslexia intervention program. Your support is critical in helping us get there. Early donations are now open, and every contribution, even before the big day on Tuesday, November 28, counts toward our #GivingTuesday goals.
“Bella entered the Dyslexia Program behind, with little to no confidence in reading. She hated to read and would get upset if she missed a word and quit. However, she worked hard and made great success in summer school. She is now more confident and loves to read!”
-Melissa, Bella’s Mother
Scholarships provide opportunities for students like Bella to have the support they need to overcome their reading struggles. There are numerous ways to support our scholarship fund and make a difference in the lives of students.
- $25 covers the cost of a week of in-school tutoring for one child in one of 21 partner Reading Labs across the region.
- $50 sponsors a family to receive a dyslexia screening for their child.
- $100 provides a partial scholarship for a child to receive a semester of after-school tutoring.
- $250 supports a student to attend our intensive five-week summer tutoring program.
You can also make a gift to support any other program or scholarship fund on this special day of giving.
