Our offices may have been closed due to the heavy snow for much of last week, but I kept daydreaming about our annual seed shower to escape from the chilly weather. Our seed shower is officially set for March 28th– a tad earlier than usual. Why the shift? Well, it turns out many families are eager to kickstart their gardening journey by sowing seeds indoors. We want to support these families wholeheartedly, and we’re reaching out to you for a helping hand.
January has been a bustling month for foodways, diligently planning and preparing for our agriculture program and its year of events. We’re thrilled to embrace a host of new growers and supporters this year, infusing our community with fresh perspectives and a burst of excitement.
Ready to get involved? Simply visit our Amazon WishList – we’ve curated a selection of seeds based on the varieties most requested by families last season. Your contribution will directly support our growers and ensure a vibrant and diverse garden for the upcoming season. Since our dates are approaching quicker than usual, ordering from the wishlist will ensure that the seeds arrive on time for the shower.
If you’re planning to collect and send in seeds, here are the types we’re particularly excited about:- heirloom tomato and bean
- bell pepper
- zucchini
- squash
- cucumber
- melons
- lettuce
- all varieties of herbs
We prefer organic seeds, whenever possible, as it aligns with our commitment to sustainable growing practices for participants.
Mailed seed donations can be sent to:

Thank you for being a vital part of our gardening community! I’ve witnessed the impact of your donations over the last few years, let’s make this the best one yet. Your generosity not only helps our gardens, but makes our community stronger, helps people learn, and brings joy, all while ensuring families in our community have better access to nutritious food.
